On Tuesday, the 9th of October 2018, 54 Year 10 students visited Kew Gardens to gain first-hand inspiration for their project on ‘Natural & Mechanical Forms’. Students explored the Princess of Wales Conservatory and Palm House where they had the opportunity to photograph tropical rain-forests and draw various plants including cacti, ferns, orchids and waterlilies. This correlates well with their current research project on oil painter Georgia O’Keeffe, well known for her highly developed abstract paintings of nature.
Students enjoyed the practical activities of botanical and mycological knowledge throughout the day and came away very inspired. Their experience will be documented in both written and drawn format to be submitted as part of their GCSE coursework.
