Governor Profiles

Mr Peter Ballard

Before I retired I was a Senior Manager with BT. Spending 34 years with the company in the Engineering Department.
I am married with two daughters who were both educated at Loxford School.
I have been a Loxford School Governor since 1989. Initially I was a Parent Governor, then a Co-opted and now a Community Governor.
I became Chairman at Loxford School in 1991 and have been Chair for all but one year ever since. Currently I am Chair of Tabor Academy, Vice Chair of The Warren School and a Governor at Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College.
I am one of four Trustees of the Loxford School Multi Academy Trust. Currently I am Trust Chairman and also Chair the Directors Board.
I also sit on London Borough of Redbridge Admission Appeals Panel.

Mr David Low

I am a retired, primary Head teacher, my career having brought me east via Hackney and Plaistow to teach in three local Boroughs.  I am the current Vice-chairman of the Trust and a National Leader of Governance.  My daughter had a very successful academic experience at Loxford School before leaving for continuing education.  I have sought to develop the role of governor into making a significant impact through being reliable, accessible, both challenging and supportive of the work of the professional staff, keeping abreast of relevant issues and trying to ensure the Trust remains determined to realise the highest aspirations of the students and their parents.

Mr Michael McIntyre

Cert Mgmt (Open) a local business man for many years in Ilford and parts of East London.  Michael completed his post graduate Professional Certificate in Management with the Open University at Regents Business School just around the corner from the University of Westminster, the awarder of his HNC in Business.  Michael has worked in various large corporations here in the United Kingdom and in Southern Africa.  Working for such employers as, for example, Associated British Foods, The Dee Corporation and Kirsh Industries of South Africa.  Michael’s employment thus far has mainly centred on Operations.

Loxford School is Michael’s second post as a School Governor, joining the Loxford School in 2011, Mike says he is “honoured to be the Chair of the Curriculum Committee” a position he took up on the 5th of July 2012 and that he “looks forward to more opportunities to support this Outstanding School under our Head Teacher Mrs Johnson, the Senior Leadership Team, Mr Ballard our Chair of Governors and Governors”.

Socially Michael enjoys dining out with friends and good company, and like very many at Loxford he also enjoys a good read, particularly specific Shakespeare such as Julius Caesar, Henry the IV, also such authors as Robert Pirsig (philosophy) and Henry Mintzberg (management).  Michael enjoys running in the local park at weekends.

Mrs Anita Johnson

Anita Johnson started her teaching career in 1987 at Stoke Newington School after she qualified as PE teacher from Bishop Otter College.

She then moved after three years to Sedgehill School in Lewisham, a large multi-cultural school as a PE teacher and soon rose through the ranks by becoming firstly, Head of Girls PE and then the overall Curriculum Leader of PE.

During her time here the school gained Sports Mark Gold and was named by Tony Blair as one of the three best schools for sport in the country.

Anita remained at Sedgehill School for twelve years and eventually moved to Upbury Art College in Gillingham, Medway.  She joined the school as an Assistant Headteacher in charge of Standards at Key Stage 4.  This school was in special measures at the time and within six months had been moved out of this category.  Anita remained here for three and a half years and helped move the school’s GCSE results out of the underperformance category.

Anita then moved to Harris Peckham Academy as the Vice-Principal.  The Peckham Academy was one of the first schools to become an Academy and Anita was one of the founding members of this.  Her position was Standard and Delivery across the whole school including attainment, achievement, attendance, curriculum, timetabling and behaviour.  The school’s results rose over the four years and Anita took over as the Acting Principal for a term during the illness of the Principal.

Anita began her own Headship in January 2008 at Loxford School of Science and Technology.  This is a thriving multicultural school which has maintained its outstanding position over the last four years. The results at GCSE have improved steadily as have the A Level results.

The Ofsted Report described Anita as “the driving force behind the school’s success. Her clear vision and high ambitions for pupils and staff are supported by a highly effective senior team and a well-led and challenging governing body.”

Anita’s educational philosophy is based around traditional standards of education and a ‘Stage not Age’ approach to achievement and attainment.

Anita is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Loxford School Trust which currently consists of five schools – Loxford School, The Warren School, Tabor Academy, Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College and Aldborough Primary School and the Headteacher of Loxford All-Through School.

Anita is married with two children, lives in Kent, and her greatest pastimes are netball and shopping.

After graduating I trained to be a teacher through the Teach First programme at Aldborough Primary School, where I am now Team Leader of Year 5, as well as Subject Leader of Art and Design.

Mr Paul Randall

“With two of my children already at The Warren and a third due to start I wanted to be involved in supporting the school to improve itself when it was really struggling to find its way.  So when the opportunity to become a Parent Governor presented itself back in 2013 I jumped at the chance.

Since joining I have become vice chair for Warrens local governing body the link governor for SEND and appointed to finance board of directors for the Loxford trust.

I want to see the school continue to improve and work with them to ensure that the outcome for the children is the best that it can possibly be.”

Mr Tom Hart

I am delighted to be the headteacher of Aldborough Primary School. Working at Aldborough is a real privilege as I get the opportunity to work with some really inspirational children, staff and Governors. I have been in teaching for 14 years and trained at St. Mary’s University College in Twickenham. Before becoming the headteacher of Aldborough in 2015 I worked in a number of schools in Newham and Redbridge as a senior leader and teacher. Having grown up in Seven Kings, I have strong links with the community the school serves.

Mrs Liz Warren

I started at The Warren in September 1998 previously working in the City but as a working mum I wanted a new challenge that gave me more time with my children.

I was an Admin Assistant then Attendance Secretary for the first 14 years, an enjoyable position getting to know our students, their parent/carers and working closely with my colleagues and outside agencies. I moved on to the position of School Secretary and now the Headteachers’ PA.

The advantages of being called Mrs ‘Warren’ the students always greet me by my name, the younger ones with a giggle as they think it’s funny Miss is actually called Warren!

The delivery men never need to say ‘name please’ they just hand me their gizmo to sign! I enjoy working at this community school, the talent shows, productions, music shows give you the opportunity to see just some of the many talents our students have!

When I am not the Headteachers’ PA I like going to concerts, line dancing and travelling with my family.

Mr Sarabjit Singh Lall

I am the current Teacher Governor at the Warren School after being elected in January 2014.
I am the joint Curriculum Team Leader in charge of the Business Department and enjoy the challenges the role brings.

I joined the school in 2007 as a Newly Qualified Teacher on completion of the Graduate Teacher Programme.
School improvement is an area I am passionate about along with the opportunities that we can offer our students. I feel privileged to represent the staff body at Warren whilst having the chance to help mould so many student outcomes and futures.

Mr Richard Micek

I have worked in secondary schools within Essex, Southend and London for the last 20 years, with 13 of these years spent in Senior Leadership positions in two Barking and Dagenham schools. I was delighted to be appointed as the substantive Headteacher of new The Warren School, part of The Loxford Trust, in August 2014, because it allowed me to continue to drive forward changes required to improve the life chances of so many magnificent students.

I firmly believe that if children are given the appropriate structures, environment and resources, they will develop the necessary skills and attributes required to contribute as independent citizens who are keen and able to be leaders in society.

Mr Yasin Patel

I have worked in Local Government for over 10 years in a number roles, which include Education Welfare and Social Care. I also have a particular interest in children and young people’s rights and I am a member of the Care Leavers’ Association.

I was elected as parent governor at Aldborough Primary School in March 2016. My son began attending the School in 2013 and my daughter is due to start in September 2016. Becoming a school governor has provided me with the opportunity to play an active role in supporting the school in achieving the best possible educational and social outcomes for the children that attend the school

I have been working with children and young people for over 20 years I have been a youth worker and managed out of school provision for children and young people with complex learning needs. Also to confirm compliance in terms of all other tax regimes within HMRC.

Mrs Victoria Cook

My daughter attended Loxford School and during this period I became a Parent Governor, a role I thoroughly enjoyed as it gave me a taste of School Governance.

Mrs Subera Ahmed

I wanted to volunteer as a Parent Governor because I recognised the importance of education.

As my three children have been progressing at Loxford Primary school, I have seen the significant quality of education being received, and the effect this has had on their development.

Through seeing the excellent efforts of the staff at the school to maximise the quality of the school experience, both academic and social, I feel all parents owe a debt to the school and its staff.  For this reason I have volunteered my time and skills as a Parent Governor.

(Skills and Experience: Educated to BA hons in Education & Community studies Effective communicator at a wide variety of levels; Good decision making.

In 2009, I became PA to the Headteacher/Office Manager and more recently HR Officer.  It is a privilege to work within the Loxford School Trust.  I have witnessed many positive changes since the transfer that are of benefit to the children of Abbs Cross Academy, including my Son who is in Year 9.

Miss Annabelle Kirkpatrick

As Staff Governor I am committed to supporting the promotion of High Standards and Educational Achievement. I have worked for the Loxford School Trust for four years and during this time have developed and maintained very good working relationships with students, parents and staff. Within my role of Staff Governor I aim to represent the views and opinions of the Staff at Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College and raise any questions that will influence the School Improvement Strategy. Making big decisions and supporting long term goals is essential when raising and sustaining the profile of the school within the local community.

Mrs Nicola Jethwa

I have been teaching for 23 years and trained as an English Teacher.  I have been a part of Senior Leadership since 2003 and have been a Deputy Head in both Newham and Barking and Dagenham.

I feel very privileged to have been appointed as the Headteacher at Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College and have been the substantive Head since October 2016.

The role of Headteacher allows me to support our students in becoming resilient adults who enjoy the challenge of learning and who will be able to take their place in our society.

Mrs Sarah Thacker
