Governor Profiles

Mr Peter Ballard

Before I retired I was a Senior Manager with BT. Spent 34 years with the company.
Married with two daughters I moved from Ilford to Chelmsford in 2011.
I have been a Loxford school governor since 1989. Initially I was a Parent Governor, then a Co-opted Governor and now a Community Governor.
I Became Chairman at Loxford in 1991 and have been Chair for all but one year ever since. Currently I am Chair of The Warren School and a governor at Tabor Academy. The Warren and Tabor involvement will end once both LGB’s are established.
I am also one of four Trustees of the Loxford School Trust. Currently I am Trust Chairman and also Chair of the Directors Board.
I also sit on London Borough of Redbridge Admission Appeals Panel.

Mr David Low

I am a retired, primary Head teacher, my career having brought me east via Hackney and Plaistow to teach in three local Boroughs.  I am the current Vice-chairman of the Trust and a National Leader of Governance.  My daughter had a very successful academic experience at Loxford School before leaving for continuing education.  I have sought to develop the role of governor into making a significant impact through being reliable, accessible, both challenging and supportive of the work of the professional staff, keeping abreast of relevant issues and trying to ensure the Trust remains determined to realise the highest aspirations of the students and their parents.

Mr David Hubbard

Qualified as FCCA accountant. Highly experienced financial and commercial manager with many years’ experience as a senior manager in an International organisation based in The City of London. Roles included computerised accounting systems development, management of sectional financial accounts. At other times I was managing some of the Company’s international project financial assessments including international negotiations relating to these. I then spent a number of years as a self-employed para-legal consultant advising clients about their Estate Planning.

Mr Asif Rafiq

I have been employed at Loxford School for the past 15 Years as an EAL teacher and previously as a Business Studies & Economics teacher. My role as a Teacher Governor has enabled me to have a clear understanding of the schools vision and direction. As a teacher I have always wanted to do my best for all the students I have taught during my career. As a teacher governor I hope to be able support and help the school to meet and achieve its Mission concerning issues of education.

Mrs Elizabeth Robinson

Having worked in schools in inner city London and Essex for over seventeen years, I was appointed Headteacher at Tabor Academy in April 2015. These experiences have taught me the extent to which education can change students’ horizons; I strongly believe in ensuring our students are well grounded in traditional values such as good behaviour, respect and discipline and develop the skills which will enable them to be successful in an ever changing world. It is a privilege to have been entrusted with leading the school at this point on its journey.

Ms Nicola Pruden

Nicola worked for 16 years in a variety of roles in Essex schools. She is a qualified teacher and has received Ofsted training. Nicola’s principal subject specialism is mathematics. She completed a Master’s degree in 2007.In her current role Nicola has worked with over twenty secondary schools on all aspects of school improvement. She has been the Chair and a member of Interim Executive Boards, and governing bodies. In each case leadership was deemed by Ofsted to be highly effective and in two cases was judged as outstanding. Nicola has been subject to enhanced DBS disclosures.

Mrs Karen Rodgers

I have worked in support roles in local schools for over 15 years, as an LSA, cover supervisor and presently as cover manager at Tabor Academy where I have daily interaction with both pupils and staff.
For 11 years I was school governor at primary and secondary level in Braintree and also a PTA chairman for four years.
I am divorced with a son and daughter in their twenties.

Mrs Claire Gillett

As a staff governor I am passionate to support the school in its transition to Outstanding.  I have worked at Tabor for seven years and during this time I have developed good relationships with both staff and pupils in the school.  Within my role I will seek to represent their broad views and opinions that will allow me to contribute to discussions about issues relating to school, ensuring that we are always striving to move forward.  Overall, I am determined to see Tabor Academy move forward, becoming the school that students (and parents) choose to attend from the Braintree District.

Mrs Hannah Watson

My name is Hannah Watson. I have 1 child in year 7 and another starting in September.
I have an interest in the support for pupils with additional needs.
I am currently not working so have time to commit to the school.
I spent 15 years working for Essex County Council and have experience of communicating with schools, parents and teachers.
I was on the working group at St. Michaels School, which revised and updated their Sex Education Policy.
I am excited to see Tabor improve and would like the opportunity to be a part of that process.

Ms Sophia Mir

Psychotherapy has been my passion since I was 18 years old. I obtained my Diploma in Counselling Children & Adolescents in May 2014. Along with this I have a BSc in Law/Sociology. I currently work for the Department of Transport as a Traffic Examiner.
I have two children, a 7 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. I enjoy bowling, cooking and reading.
I love to manage projects big and small including house builds and refurbishments. I am very family orientated. I commend myself for always trying until I achieve and exceed the goals I set for myself.

Miss Stephanie McAuliffe

I’m Stephanie McAuliffe and I grew up in Bromley, South East London. I knew I wanted to be a teacher from a young age; partly due to the influence of my parents, who are both teachers. I studied Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge, where I pursued a range of hobbies, including RAG Charity Fundraising, rowing for my college Boat Club, and performing in a number of bands. After graduating I trained to be a teacher through the Teach First programme at Aldborough Primary School, where I am now Team Leader of Year 5, as well as Subject Leader of Art and Design.

Mr Andrew Ross

Andrew has been a school governor in the Braintree community since 2006, and at Tabor since 2010.  Both his daughters have attended Tabor.
Andrew’s background is as a business director and IT consultant, working with small to global-sized organisations.  Andrew has now returned to full-time education and is reading for a degree in Sports and Exercise Performance at Writtle College.

‘I truly recognise the importance a good education has been and still is for me.  I continue to want to do everything I can to ensure that each child in our community has the very best education and support we can offer them.’

Mr Khalid Rana

My name is Khalid Rana. I live in Ilford Essex with my wife of 30 years and 3 of my 4 children.

I have been a Governor for the past 5 years at Loxford School which is a great pleasure as I attended the school as a child over 30 years ago. I am currently a Train Driver for MTR Crossrail, however I am very active as an ASLEF Union Rep and hold numerous qualifications in Health and Safety.

Mr Paul Randall

“With two of my children already at The Warren and a third due to start I wanted to be involved in supporting the school to improve itself when it was really struggling to find its way.  So when the opportunity to become a Parent Governor presented itself back in 2013 I jumped at the chance.

Since joining I have become vice chair for Warrens local governing body the link governor for SEND and appointed to finance board of directors for the Loxford trust.

I want to see the school continue to improve and work with them to ensure that the outcome for the children is the best that it can possibly be.”

Mr Tom Hart

I am delighted to be the headteacher of Aldborough Primary School. Working at Aldborough is a real privilege as I get the opportunity to work with some really inspirational children, staff and Governors. I have been in teaching for 14 years and trained at St. Mary’s University College in Twickenham. Before becoming the headteacher of Aldborough in 2015 I worked in a number of schools in Newham and Redbridge as a senior leader and teacher. Having grown up in Seven Kings, I have strong links with the community the school serves.

Mr Richard Pain

My name is Richard Pain and I have been a Parent Governor since March 2015. I have lived in Chadwell Heath since 1997. My oldest son attends Warren Senior School and my younger son attends Warren Junior School.

I have worked in Local Government for many years for the Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Greenwich and Enfield. I am also an author of Distance Learning tuition material for students taking exams in Council Tax Administration.

In my spare time I am researching my family history, learning to play the keyboard, and keep fit by swimming regularly.

Mrs Liz Warren

I started at The Warren in September 1998 previously working in the City but as a working mum I wanted a new challenge that gave me more time with my children.

I was an Admin Assistant then Attendance Secretary for the first 14 years, an enjoyable position getting to know our students, their parent/carers and working closely with my colleagues and outside agencies. I moved on to the position of School Secretary and now the Headteachers’ PA.

The advantages of being called Mrs ‘Warren’ the students always greet me by my name, the younger ones with a giggle as they think it’s funny Miss is actually called Warren!

The delivery men never need to say ‘name please’ they just hand me their gizmo to sign! I enjoy working at this community school, the talent shows, productions, music shows give you the opportunity to see just some of the many talents our students have!

When I am not the Headteachers’ PA I like going to concerts, line dancing and travelling with my family.

Mr Sarabjit Singh Lall

I am the current Teacher Governor at the Warren School after being elected in January 2014.

I am the joint Curriculum Team Leader in charge of the Business Department and enjoy the challenges the role brings.

After graduating with a degree in Business I worked in retail banking as a Fraud investigation Officer and spent 5 years as a VAT inspector for HM Revenue & Customs. Before taking the leap into teaching I worked as a Case Worker for the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

I joined the school in 2007 as a Newly Qualified Teacher on completion of the Graduate Teacher Programme.

School improvement is an area I am passionate about along with the opportunities that we can offer our students. I feel privileged to represent the staff body at Warren whilst having the chance to help mould so many student outcomes and futures.

Mr Richard Micek

I have worked in secondary schools within Essex, Southend and London for the last 19 years, with 13 of these years spent in Senior Leadership positions in two Barking and Dagenham schools. I was delighted to be appointed as the substantive Headteacher of new The Warren School, part of The Loxford Trust, in August 2014, because it allowed me to continue to drive forward changes required to improve the life chances of so many magnificent students.

I firmly believe that if children are given the appropriate structures, environment and resources, they will develop the necessary skills and attributes required to contribute as independent citizens who are keen and able to be leaders in society.

Mr Yasin Patel

I have worked in Local Government for over 10 years in a number roles, which include Education Welfare and Social Care. I currently work for a London Borough as a Commissioning Manager for children, young people and families. My primary focus is commissioning services for the most vulnerable children and young people in the community and children in care. I also have a particular interest in children and young people’s rights and I am a member of the Care Leavers’ Association.

I was elected as parent governor at Aldborough Primary School in March 2016. My son began attending the School in 2013 and my daughter is due to start in September 2016. Becoming a school governor has provided me with the opportunity to play an active role in supporting the school in achieving the best possible educational and social outcomes for the children that attend the school

Ms Sue Bruno

I am based at Aldborough Primary School as part of the Year Care Team. I have been working with children and young people for over 20 years I have been a youth worker and managed out of school provision for children and young people with complex learning needs. I have also experience of supporting families. All of these skills have helped me in my current role.

Whilst working at Warren Secondary School as an LSA, I became involved with Drum Works which is a charity that enables young people to learn and perform in an ensemble. I am in the adult band and have had the opportunities to perform in festivals. My other hobbies include baking, long distance running and general fitness.

Mrs Gekky Sugumar

I am Gekky Sugumar and I have been a co opted parent governor since 2015. My oldest daughter went to Warren who is doing her final year at Southampton Solent. My youngest is in year 11 at Warren. I wanted to do something meaningful to local school and as both of my children went to this school, it seemed more appropriate. I work for HMRC and audit businesses to check on accuracy of customs declarations particularly for imports and exports of goods from outside of EU. Also to confirm compliance in terms of all other tax regimes within HMRC.
